The knife block is made in Malaysia with typical hardwood. Nothing fancy. It's good for the price. What matters is that 19 slots, especially a slot for a cleaver that I really need it. It holds 2 santoku knives very well. The 8 steak knives slots are very useful that use to store paring and peeling knives instead. Also easy to acccess and grab the knives. It looks big in the picture and it is a lot bigger than my old standard block, but it doesn't take much more room since I put it in the corner. Happy that I bought it.

This knife block was very good quality, and was very well packed. I received it very shortly after I placed the order. I bought this for my daughter who requested one for her birthday present. I had a lot of time to research this on the Internet and found out a lot about knife blocks. One thing is that it's hard to find one without the knives included in the sale. The other is to find a high quality wood and large enough holes because I didn't know what sizes her collection included. I finally chose the one with the best wood (my son-in-law does a lot of wood restoration around their house), the largest one with the most and largest holes, and one with the least advertising on it so they could display it out on their counter where they wanted it. This served all purposes and she was very very pleased with it! I kept the receipt in case she wanted to return it, but she loved it and was using it the very next day.

Nicely made knife block. More than enough slots for my needs. Reasonable price. Initially, Amazon sent me the wrong item (19 slot block), they corrected it right away. Here's info about this 20 slot block, emailed to me by JAHenckels. The cleaver slot is 3½". Four slots are 2". Two slots are 1½". One slot is 1¼". Two slots are 1". The eight steak knife slots are ¾". The other two slots are reserved for a sharpening steel and for kitchen shears.

After years of storing knives in a drawer, putting fingers at risk in searching for the right one, and dealing with consistently dull or damaged cutting edges, I finally decided to "sacrifice" some counter space for a knife block. This one is perfect! My steak and utility knives fit in the front lower slots and are easily accessible. (However, my set of large steak-house style knives have blades that are too wide for the lower slots.) The upper portion of the block holds everything else, including wide-bladed vegetable knives and very long serrated blades like bread knives. The angle of the block is just right for the counter height, neither too high nor too low. The knives set well into the block and don't rattle about or risk spilling out onto the counter. The block is heavy enough that it never moves as I remove or return knives to it. It's great! Just as advertised.

This block has enough slots that are large - to hold just about all knives you will need. It has a 3 1/2 inch for a cleaver and a couple of 2 inches for a Santoku and a large chef's knife. It has several 1 1/2 and 1 inch slots. It has a place to store your steel and kitchen shears. It has a fairly small footprint considering it holds 19 knives. It's about 5 inches by 11 1/2 inches.

I finally have a knife block that will store all my knives!!! It doesn't seem to matter what size or shape the knife is, there is a slot for it! Especially the cleaver!!! On my old one, I had to put a nail on the back to hold the cleaver. Not with this one. And I love having our steak knives in the block along with the other good knives. I can't say enough good about this block. Its not the fanciest hardwood and there is almost no figure to the wood, but its still just fine.

In our block we have a 10" slicer, a 10" Chef's, 7" Santuko, 5" Cleaver, 8" bread, 8" fillet, 6" fillet, 4" paring, 6" Paring, Sharpening steel, 8 steak knives, and a 10" awful TV Knife that my wife seems to love! Ack!

Gotta love this block! It does make me happy!

We purchased this block to house our growing Henckels collection. We got a great deal on-line, fast delivery and this piece fits in so well on the counter, my wife didn't even notice it until a day later! Some of the slots are small if you're into the Santouko knives, but this will work well if you've got a more balanced set. Two thumbs up!

I own a complete set of Henckels knifes so it was only natural for me to get this wood block that was better than the one that came with the knifes. This block is not only beautiful but it does a great job protecting the sharp ends and there is a slot for every kind of knife there is, I could not be more satisfied

Over 30+ years I've collected a mismatched assortment of knives, many of which I'm very attached to even if they weren't particularly expensive. (My husband is meticulous about keeping them sharpened, so that helps a lot.)

I've bought a few "storage solutions" over the years. This storage block is the first I've ever had that accommodates nearly all of them and still doesn't take up much space on the counter. The wood is nice, the variety of slots is fine for my needs, and I couldn't be happier with the price. A very good value!

And I've stopped searching for a better way to keep all my knives handy.

After looking at several different knife blocks (including the "ploosh" type with the plastic rods), my girlfriend and I decided on this one. We have since been very happy with our decision; this knife block feels really sturdy and gets the job done well. Also, one thing I was pleasantly surprised by was the fact that the slits for the knives go all the way through the block, meaning there is plenty of air circulation to allow excess moisture to escape (which keeps the whole thing cleaner and dryer). Two non-severed thumbs up!

This block is perfect for my needs. It was the only reasonably priced knife block I could find that would fit my meat cleaver. My wife had wanted a knife block for years but it seems impossible to find one without a set of knives included. Henckels to the rescue! Not much I can say about it except that it does what is expected of it, sufficient storage slots for all common knives. Be advised, however, that it takes up considerable space on an already crowded kitchen counter.

I replaced my crappy smaller knife block that had vertical slots with this one. All my previous knives (steakknives, kitchen shears and honing steel included) fit perfectly and I was able to add three more chefs knives as well. Takes up quite a bit of counter space in my galley kitchen (as much as a toaster) but is better than shoving knives in a drawer or trying to hang them all on a magnetic bar on the wall.

To get 20 knives and tools on this block, Henckels packs them tight, but it works. Very attractive on the counter, and almost allowed me to empty an entire drawer of knives I need at hand for cooking. To be able to have a Santoku, 3 sizes of Chef's knives, several paring, a cleaver, scissors, wire cutters, and even a cleaver slot is simply fantastic.

Reading the reviews here, I was a bit reluctant to buy this knife block, but since I had tons of knives that I wasn't able to store effectively, I thought I'd give it a try. Here's what I have in the block (from top down, left to right):

Our old block had vertical slots, which will dull the knives if they are not carefully placed, and which become ragged at the bottom with use. The Henckels block has horizontal slots, and a large number of them in various sizes. It is well-made and finely sanded. At the price, it is a bargain.

Nice knife block. Lots of wide width blade slots, this is good since I have 2 Santoku knives. It's nice and deep so I can keep my bread knife in it too. I use the steak knife slots for paring and small blade utility knives.

The knife block arrived on time and is an excellent value for the price. There are slots shaped for just about any knife or implement you might have. Too often knife blocks have only standard slots and I have some decidedly non-standard shaped knives and sharpening tools. This one handles every shape. Another thing I like is that the slots are long and deep enough so that even the longest knife doesn't poke out the bottom and gouge the counter top. The only downside to that depth is that the knife block is therefore very long and sticks out from the wall more than others, so it has to be placed sideways or in a corner out of the way.

I originally bought a knife block from TruBamboo that was falling apart out of the box so I took it back and ordered this. The Henckels block is sturdy and well constructed, very solid. However, I think it is important to note that the picture is slightly different from the actual product. The design is basically the same, but the picture shows 4 larger slots, but the block I received only has two. So my chefs knife, santoku, and 10" slicing knife wouldn't all fit, but I used a drill to widen one of the slots. It is also good to note that my cleaver doesn't fit in the cleaver slot, which will only hold a 3.5" width cleaver and mine was 4". So I did buy another cleaver to fit the slot. Overall a 5 star product, but I gave 4 stars since the picture isn't the exact product I received.

I like this block, but it really only has two slots wide enough for Santoku or chef's knives. The other slots are narrower and made more for slicing/carving/bread knives. I have a couple of older and cheaper Chicago Cutlery chef's knives that I store together in the cleaver slot, but they overlap by about 1/4 inch. It is a deep block, meaning it will hold a 9" blade easily. Overall, for the price...it's a great knife block.

I love this knife storage block. There are so many slots of varying sizes and I am now able to store all of my odd shaped knives. The angle keeps the block a bit farther away from the wall than an upright one, but doesn't really take up too much extra space. The wood is beautiful and you can't beat the price. I have a very long knife that I keep in the top slot which gives it more room in length. The lower slots can be used for steak knives or odd short utility knives. I highly recommend this block.

I finally decided to buy a knife storage block and I'm very happy with it. My knives are mismatched. They fit well into this block. It holds my long bread knife, a large wide knife, several paring knives and a set of steak knives. It is so handy. The larger knives had been laying on a shelf. It is nice to have all my knives in one place. I don't like having too many gadgets on my counter. Like others have commented, this block sits nicely to the side so isn't in my way.

The only reason for 4 stars is that there was a strong shellac odor when I opened up the block. I didn't know whether it was safe to keep or not. I decided to keep it since the inside appears unpainted. The odor went away.

Since I have become the primary cook in the house, I've needed a decent storage place for my good knives. This fits the bill. It holds virtually all my long knives and some of the shorter ones, as well. Now every time I need a knife, it' handy and convenient. I love it.

The only drawback is that my steak knives are too big for their slots in the block, but I am planning on getting some different ones very soon that will fit.

First, the pic shows 19 slots but the write up says 20 slots. Didn't know what I was going to get. Said In Stock, but took 15 days to ship with Super Saver.

Second, Amazon & J. A. went out of their way not to let me know what the slot sizes are. The one I got fortunately has 20 slots. One for scissors & one for a steel, a 3 1/4" cleaver slot, 4 - 2" slots, 2 each 1 3/8" & 1" slots, 1 - 1 1/4" slot and 8 - 3/4" slots for steak knives.

Now, my cleaver won't fit in the cleaver slot, but that isn't a problem because my 10" chefs knife won't fit in any of the other slots so it has to go in the cleaver slot. My 12" roast slicer doesn't have a prayer. All the other knives I don't use fit fine.

All in all it's a nice block at a nice price. I didn't like wondering for three weeks what I bought.

After reading all the good reviews and looking at the picture, I thought this would be a great choice for me. Unfortunately, the block only fit two of my larger knives, leaving 4 big knives without a home. Maybe if there were room for 4 or 5 larger knives I would have made due and gotten rid of a redundant knife or two, but as it was, this block is useless.

Strangely, there was enough room on the rightmost column of slots that the slots could have been made sufficiently wide for my needs. For whatever reason, they didn't design it for my selection of knives. Oh well.

All that said, it seemed like a nice enough block otherwise.
